CNA Career Prospective as Home Health Care Provider

Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) are those medical practitioners who assist patients in performing their day to day activities such as dressing, bathing, feeding, relocating and so on. Depending upon the capabilities and interest, these nursing assistants work in different healthcare settings like nursing home, hospitals, and doctor’s office and even in home health services. For anyone seeking to be certified nursing assistant, one must receive complete course accredited by state and obtain the license. Only licensed CNAs are eligible to work, however the licensure requirement may vary from state to state.

There are multiple choices for training courses for any candidate. The training course can be completed in a vocational school, community college, online schools, the American Red Cross or even free courses in the medical institution like hospitals. However hospitals would ask you to work after completing your course for certain time in their institution in minimum stipend. The duration of course may vary from one state to another. Normally, 4-18 weeks of courses are found. For completing CNA courses one must study topics such as basic anatomy, first aid, infection control, patient care techniques and skills such as communication skill, reporting skill and so on. Courses designed for home health unit may ask students to learn housekeeping skills, cooking for patients on special diets, handling home medical emergencies and expertise on handling family medical issues. Upon successful completion of program, for students to obtain license, they must sit and pass the state governed written and practical exams. The other requirements may vary from state to state and for complete information on licensure requirements State Board of Nursing would be the right place.

CNA Career Prospective as Home Health Care Provider

cna classes CNA Career Prospective as Home Health Care Provider

The demand for medical and nursing staffs is ever growing. This gives certainty of secure career for students of medical field including CNAs. The salary range of those CNAs working in home health industry was $16,024-429,742 per year (, 2010). This field is expected to increase by 50% till 2018 according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. This increase in home health industry is fostered by many reasons like increase of elderly population seeking to receive care at home than any other long-term care facility. The insurance companies are now turning to pay for shorter hospital stays, which is also a strong reason for increase in patients seeking home health care. With CNAs the patients get medical as well as psychological care at home in small budget, when compared to other medical facilities.

Nursing assistants seeking to work in home health care should contact home health agencies because these agencies employ such candidates in client’s home. In client’s home you are responsible to perform all the tasks according to your contract. Additionally, CNAs are also responsible for reporting health condition to client’s physician in periodic manner.

Those who love to work with elderly people at their home avoiding chaotic environment of hospitals; working in home health facility is something they should go for. This is rather a good choice for less stressful job with good pay-scale.
