Training for CNA: Features Explained

Do you want to become a CNA? Do you want a complete training for CNA guide? Here is your book of rules you need to know before and during the career.

Unemployment is reaching highs, and everyone is in the search of an alternative career. Today even associate degree holders are doing better than college graduates. Other short trainings are also coming into the scene. CNA is one of such careers that require short training but has long term benefits. Compared to the investment and studies associated with CNAs, the earning and job prospect is brilliant. Due to such numerous advantages, the number of CNA students is increasing rapidly. But the interesting thing is that in spite of it, the number of already working CNAs is still insufficient. The nursing field still needs a lot of CNAs. And medical field is one field that will never lose market.

CNAs generally perform the basic care-taking duties of a patient. They help them with their regular activities which may include cleaning, bathing, eating, etc. On the medical part, they are responsible for marking any changes in the patient, giving injections and looking after the medicine dosages. They have to obey the orders of higher nurses and doctors and then work accordingly. The responsibilities are not as easy as they seem. Helping the patients with excretion and stuff can be disgusting. Other such medical cases can also be devastating, and patients can be very rude. One cannot proceed for such duties without training as these qualities are not inborn.

Training for CNA

CNA trainings last generally from 6 to 10 weeks. Federal government requires CNA trainings to be not less than 75 hours; however each state has manipulated the time and the time limit is different for different states. The subjects included in such trainings are anatomy, biology and communication skills. The training as a whole is divided into two sessions: theoretical and practical sessions. The practical session is more important as it makes one ready for the future environment and duties. Overall, the training prepares you for the certification exams; certification is your gateway to a CNA job. Without certification, you will not be able to work.

Training for CNA: eligibility

The eligibility requirements to enroll in CNA training are:

1. Must be 18 years of age
2. Must have a high school or a GED equivalent
3. Must clear the background criminal check

However, the requirements may differ with different states.

Another great news is that there are high chances of you getting free CNA training. Medical homes and nursing homes provide free CNA training. In turn, you will have to voluntarily work for them for a certain period of time. This deal is called employer sponsorship. Also, institutions like American Red Cross provide unconditional free training. Certain government schemes also exist which provides free training if you have poor financial condition. Scholarships may also be available by the CNA School itself. So, with a little effort you can be a CNA with almost no investment.

Many people take CNA as an alternative career, and hence don’t have enough time for taking the full-fledged training on campus. To make it easier, CNA schools have now introduced night classes which enable students to do another task during the day simultaneously. Similarly, online classes have also been introduced for the convenience of students. Online training is cheaper and very time-efficient. But online training only covers theoretical sessions. Practical sessions have to be conducted in real. Now, you have to fix your priorities and do your homework before you set in for anything.

One thing you have to keep in mind about CNA training is that your training centre should be certified. There are certain organizations that fix requisites and hence conduct certification. If you go for a certified training course, you know that you are going into a program that meets certain standards, and hence can be trusted to an extent. And any ways, you cannot appear for the certification exam, if your training is not certified.

Even if you want to rise higher with your career after you become a CNA, you can add up trainings. With experience and more training, you will rise in the medical hierarchy and will also earn more. And remember more than the training it is you who is going to be responsible for your career. So, study well and be determined.
